CELLA by Ecoid

www.ecoid.net
CELLA is a project of Yongkyu Kim and Jonghyun Baek. It's a 3d printed cell of different sizes which houses Moss. A "creative product designed to bring urban people closer to nature."

The porosity of the material provides an ideal environment for the proliferation of moss because moss gathers all of its nutrients from the air so doesn’t need soil.

Cella was developed from a green roof research project called “Mosspebble” at Harvard University’s Graduate School of Design.

There are two ways to use Cella. The first is with a Soilball (a mixture of vermiculite, pearlite and bed soil) to make grow small plants. The second is obviously with a Mossball (sphagnum + moss).

CyBe Robot 3D Printer

Another interesting study on the possibility to print entire buildings in 3d comes to us from CyBe Additive Industries (Holland).

The 3d printer consists of two parts:

ProTo R 3DP is the robotic arm with a print speed of 01 – 400 mm / second, a movement range of 3.150 mm and a layer height of 20 – 50 mm.

CyBe Mortar is the special ink for print concrete structures. Obviously its composition remains a secret but it looks really promising.

According to the producer working with this type of mortar produces 32% less CO2 compared to regular concrete. Of course you can not miss an interesting video of the machine in action!

3D Printed Straw Sculptures

www.jix.us.com
This ingenious construction system, as simple as smart, is the work of Patrick Martinez.

JIX is a constructive system made of plastic joints connected with simple straws with which you can create any shape, form or geometry in the space! The connectors are made of a recycled bio plastic in the US and...ok...but 3d printing?

Well, Amanda Ghassaei has done a reverse engineering on this project making it available to all users on Instructables!

You can download a stl file of the joint and print it choosing from the numerous versions of it. Is not only a brutal copy but an improved and more flexible version of the same  constructive system.

Nice work, you both! =)

It's Easy to Say 3d Print...But What Type?

www.bq.com
New to 3d printing? Let's make a very quick list of the main 3d printing techniques!

FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling) A plastic filament is melted and deposited layer by layer. Is the classic 3D desktop printer.

SLS (Selective Laser Sintering) A laser sintering powdered material that is laid layer by layer. This technique allows a higher resolution.

SLA (Stereolithography) It's a complex process that use photopolymerization laser to solidify a liquid resin layer by layer.

DLP (Digital Light Processing) Very similar to the previous technique, the difference is the light source. A led UV projector solidifies a photopolymer layer by layer.
